Tasting Notes
Located between Languedoc and Roussillon in the south of France, Fitou specialises in the kind of reds we love during the autumn and winter months. This unoaked blend of old-vine Carignan and Grenache from one of the region’s most skilful producers will make a joyous partner to caramelised onions, roasted mushrooms, cassoulet, sausage stews, meatballs, game and rich dishes served with couscous and harissa. Suddenly the colder part of the year doesn’t seem like such a hardship.
Jérôme Bertrand is the sixth generation of his family to run Domaine Bertrand-Bergé. This is a winery that won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of Paris all the way back in 1900. The fact that it is still producing some of the appellations finest wines is testament to the quality or the terroir and the longevity of the estate. Organic for over a decade, they use very low doses of sulphur to preserve the wine and concrete tanks for ageing. These steps allow the blueberry, blackberry, bittersweet cocoa, white pepper and liquorice flavours to shine in their silky and vegan-friendly red wines.
