97 points “The 2014 Rosé La Grande Année is airy gracious and full of energy. Crushed rocks white pepper red berry mint and blood orange lend striking aromatic intensity and presence. Finely cut and taut the Rosé is a nervy Champagne that needs time to come together. The Rosé is blended from a base of the Blanc plus 5% still red Pinot from Bollinger’s Coteaux des Enfants vineyard in Aÿ. Perhaps because of its later disgorgement vis-à-vis the Blanc the Rosé is a bit tight today.” – Antonio Galloni

96 points “Bollinger's 2014 Brut La Grande Année Rosé wafts from the glass with aromas of tangerine oil red berries warm biscuits and English walnuts. Full-bodied fleshy and enveloping it's a broad vinous Champagne with a deep core of fruit and racy acids complemented by a delicate pinpoint mousse and concluding with delicate and enlivening phenolic grip on the finish.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

2014 was a challenging rollercoaster of a vintage that there wasn’t much enthusiasm for. However those opinions are beginning to change especially following the release of the showstopping Bollinger La Grande Année Rosé.

Hailing from entirely Grand and Premier Cru sites this is a blend of 63% Pinot Noir (mainly from Aÿ and Verzenay) and 37% Chardonnay (mainly from Chouilly and Oiry) that was fermented entirely in oak aged on the lees for around 6.5 years riddled by hand and disgorged manually. Where it differs from the white version of La Grande Année is that it also contains a splash of red wine from the exclusive and legendary plot Côte aux Enfants with its ungrafted and immensely flavoursome vines. This small addition completely changes the wine like the flip of a switch. Wild strawberries red berry sorbet cherry blood orange ruby grapefruit peach skins quince melting vanilla ice cream creamy white chocolate almond biscotti walnut baklava spice sea spray and lip-smacking crispness. And that’s just tasting it now. This will continue to develop and improve for decades and decades to come. Rich savoury and vinous; this is the kind of Champagne you can sip throughout a meal especially if you’re serving game tuna tataki lobster orange-laced oriental dishes pibil cherry tomato pasta or a pea and red pepper salad with a paprika ginger and orange dressing.

Champagne Bollinger was founded in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger and soon earned a reputation for quality. Under subsequent generations its reputation has gone from strength to strength and today it’s one of the most prestigious of all Champagne brands. Stylistically Bollinger is renowned for its rich and savoury style.
