Barolo Riserva Faletto Vigna Le Rocche 2011

97 points, “The Bruno Giacosa 2011 Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna Le Rocche commands attention and respect… This is a Grande Vino with the proverbial capital G and capital V.” – Wine Advocate

Behind this iconic red label, there’s a phenomenal Barolo Riserva, one that sets the benchmark for the region. Famed for his ability to select the finest fruit, the bespectacled Bruno Giacosa was a sad loss to the fine wine world when he passed away in January 2018, making wines like this even more sought-after. Bottled from the estate’s vineyards Vigna Le Rocche was only created when Bruno Giacosa deemed it ready and only in vintages that he considered of the utmost quality. That makes any release of this wine, not just rare, but an iconic event.

For such a warm vintage, this is a refined masterpiece. Dark, sanguineous fruits, such as plums, blackberries and Morello cherries, combine with dark chocolate-coated crystallised ginger, cherry cola, Earl Grey tea, distant bonfire smoke and a pinch of sea salt. This is the kind of wine that is a joy on its own but also pairs stunningly with the flavours of truffles, wild mushrooms, Christmas goose, pheasant, hare or duck.
