Busi Jacobsohn are one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the English wine scene in recent years and their first-ever rosé sets a new benchmark.

Transcending the burgeoning English sparkling wine category Busi Jacobsohn is the epitome of European elegance. The brand was created by an Italian and Swedish couple – Susanna Busi and Douglas Jacobsohn – at Blackdon Farm on the beautiful High Weald just south of Tunbridge Wells. Here they use the traditional method made world-famous by Champagne and vines from Burgundy clones to create wines that are a celebration of Europe. Their very first wine was awarded 94 points by the Decanter World Wine Awards putting this new venture firmly on the fine wine map but also on a trajectory to become a world-beater.

What pours from the strikingly designed bottle is a stunning coral-coloured fizz that tastes like a future classic. Much like its white sibling the Cuvée Brut 2018 the Rosé Extra Brut from the same vintage instantly feels like an old friend. Although predominantly Pinot Noir a splash of Chardonnay adds sherbet and seashell highlights a similar measure of Pinot Meunier imparts a youthful character and a little umami and a barrel-aged mix of Pinots provides oaky richness. Raise a flute and you’ll be met by a dazzling combination of redcurrants pink grapefruit cherry blossom raspberry sorbet wild strawberry pink oyster mushroom shortbread and piecrust. As well as being perfect for celebrations and aperitifs it also makes an exquisite match to poached salmon roast chicken or guinea fowl nduja pizza Spanish tortilla or orecchiette with cauliflower sundried tomato and saffron. And on that latter food match it’s refreshing to see a progressive producer clearly marking that this wine is suitable for vegans on its back label.

Founded in 2015 Busi Jacobsohn is very much a family-run wine estate. Douglas Jacobsohn stepped down as chief executive of an insurance company working in London to follow a dream that he and his wife Susanna had of making their own wine. After extensive training at Plumpton College Douglas spends his days among the vines while Susanna takes care of the organisational side. Their sons Charles and Tom help with design marketing and the vineyards; and their friends and family all pitch in at harvest time following the classic Italian tradition of Vendemmia. We're proud to be one of the first stockists of Busi Jacobsohn and cannot recommend it highly enough.
