48 Year Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky Special Release 2018
“This rather blew my mind.” – Scotch Whisky Magazine
Single Grain Scotch of this quality and of this age is a rare find indeed. Distilled in 1970 at the Carsebridge Distillery in Alloa, only 1000 bottles of this natural cask-strength whisky were filled in 2018. Definitely one for wine lovers, it displays a fusion of brambles, cassis, red fruit, vanilla, oak and soft spices that calls to mind a glass of Bordeaux. There’s a grandeur to it as if that Claret is being sipped in a stately home surrounded by polished antique furniture and hushed tones, as servants prepare crème brûlée and mulled wine somewhere behind the scenes for the amassing guests.
One of the most unusual of the 2018 Diageo Special Releases; you’d certainly be forgiven for not having heard of the Lowland grain distillery Carsebridge. It was founded around the turn of the 19th Century in Alloa and by 1980 was the biggest grain distillery in Scotland. Unfortunately, it was closed for good in 1983 and demolished about a decade later. Any casks that remain become rarer by the day, so we cannot recommend this one highly enough as who knows when we will see it's like again.
