Please note that this Tequila comes without a box, making it one for the eco-friendly drinkers rather than the collectors or gifters.

Celosa means ‘jealous’, and this rosé-coloured Tequila is guaranteed to make everyone at the party green with envy.

Inspired by Tlanchana, a mermaid-like goddess from Mexican folklore whose legend spreads from the lakes of Puebla to Guadalajara, Celosa is an enchanting ultra-premium Rosé Tequila made from organic ingredients. It’s filled into a dazzling slimline bottle featuring a punt that looks like a cross between a pink diamond and an agave piña. This is then finished with a marble cap made by the skilled hands of Mexican artisans, making each bottle as unique as the liquid inside.

Celosa Rosé Tequila’s story begins in the highlands of Jalisco, where expert jimadores harvest 7-year-old Blue Weber agave at peak ripeness. These are then cooked for eight hours, rested for four more, ground in a mill, fermented for 72 hours and distilled twice in copper alembics. Then comes the plot twist. The Tequila is allowed to rest for 21 days in French oak barrels formerly used to age Merlot at one of the Napa Valley’s leading vineyards, sourced by the team at Hundred Acre. This imparts that magical pink colour, but also a silky texture and notes of red berries. It makes beautiful cocktails, but we prefer to sip it neat and ice-cold, to fully appreciate its delicate nuances of cherry, pink grapefruit, strawberry sorbet, passionfruit, red grape and vanilla. We’ve fallen head over heels for this one, and you know that there’s no true love without a little jealousy.

Celosa is made by José Antonio Alonso Beckmann and Jaime Villalobos Sauza. The former is the twelfth generation of a very significant Tequila family (eagle-eyed lovers of agave-based spirits will note that ‘Beckmann’ is a surname that crops up at José Cuervo, Maestro DOBEL and many other leading brands). The latter is a fifth-generation Maestro Tequilero who can trace his lineage back to Don Cenobio Sauza – the man affectionately known as the ‘Father of Tequila’. Together, they craft Celosa Rosé Tequila at Hacienda la Capilla, which is one of the finest distilleries in all of Mexico.
