Barbaresco Bernadot 2015
94 points, “A wine that expresses the myriad shades of contrast that make Nebbiolo such a fascinating grape.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
17.5 points, “Quite charming… Vigour and potential with really admirable length.” – Jancis Robinson, Purple Pages
Barbaresco Bernadot comes from a romantically beautiful vineyard in Treiso and has always been considered one of the region’s finest terroirs. This natural amphitheatre creates its own microclimate, and Ceretto’s biodynamic farming methods allow the land to sing through the wine. Leaving this time to open up in the glass, you’ll discover sweet cherry, kirsch, strawberry, cinnamon, wildflowers, smoke and a refreshing zip of lemon and wild mint. A fine choice for roast goose, wild boar sausages and mash, wild mushroom tacos or a simple truffle pasta.
Ceretto was established in the 1930s by brothers Bruno and Marcello; this dynamic duo managed to pin down some of the most valuable and historically significant plots in the Barolo in Piedmont. The company is now run by their children Lisa, Roberta, Alessandro and Federico. Despite being a traditional family business, they are incredibly forward thinking. All of the vineyards are either organic or are being converted that way; they follow biodynamic farming methods; currently incorporating four wineries, their empire is growing; their winemaker is actually an Aussie called Dave Fletcher who makes incredible Nebbiolo on both sides of the planet; and they also own a three-Michelin-starred restaurant called Piazza Duomo in Alba. They are famed for their elegant wines and modern Piedmont style and have developed a cult following as one of the region’s under-the-radar stars.
