92 points, “The 2015 Barbaresco offers a textbook rendition of the vintage, executed in an elegant style.” – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
90 points, “Medium in body and gracious, the 2015 is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next decade.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Ceretto’s straight Barbaresco is mainly sourced from Bernadot, with about 15% from younger vines in Asili. This is important because it costs less than half the price of the Barbaresco Bernadot and Barbaresco Asili, making it exceptional value for anyone who is looking to taste the fruit of these wonderful vineyards. 2015 was warm and many Barbarescos from this vintage have appeared a little overcooked, but not Ceretto’s. This is elegant, restrained and softly plump, exhibiting juicy cherry, rose petal, mint, tobacco, ripe plum, orange peel, vanilla and clove. Cerreto’s refined style doesn’t need anything too rich food-wise, opt for simply cooked game, wild mushrooms, truffles, or pasta with a fresh cherry tomatoes sauce.
Ceretto was established in the 1930s by brothers Bruno and Marcello; this dynamic duo managed to pin down some of the most valuable and historically significant plots in the Barolo in Piedmont. The company is now run by their children Lisa, Roberta, Alessandro and Federico. Despite being a traditional family business, they are incredibly forward thinking. All of the vineyards are either organic or are being converted that way; they follow biodynamic farming methods; currently incorporating four wineries, their empire is growing; their winemaker is actually an Aussie called Dave Fletcher who makes incredible Nebbiolo on both sides of the planet; and they also own a three-Michelin-starred restaurant called Piazza Duomo in Alba. They are famed for their elegant wines and modern Piedmont style and have developed a cult following as one of the region’s under-the-radar stars.
