Grand Vin Margaux 1989 - Château Margaux

Château Margaux

Grand Vin Margaux 1989

The consistently high-scoring Château Margaux is such a venerated and sought-after wine that it takes the name of the appellation from which it comes; a commanding achievement. Revered for its perfumed elegance, floral bouquet and remarkable structure, respected wine critic Neal Martin put it best when he described Château Margaux as: “the most feminine and charming of the First Growths.”

Made by the late Paul Pontallier in an unusually hot year, Jancis Robinson described the 1989 Margaux as: “Really remarkable for this vintage! So flattering and long and complete.”  There is an opulent, almost Pauillac-esque feel to it. Full of finesse and floral highlights, touches of dried fig and prune mingle with the plush red and black fruit, all elegantly supported by tobacco, cedar, woody herbs and petrichor. Sandwiched between the classic 1988 and the outstanding 1990, Château Margaux’s 1989 is part of an excellent trio and offers a unique style for fans to explore.
