Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2011
“A thrilling offering from proprietor Denis Durantou (who also owns Pomerol’s l’Eglise-Clinet) … this wine outperforms many of Bordeaux’s more famous names in this vintage. A stunner in quality and value, it can be enjoyed over the next 10+ years.” – Robert Parker
Considering how many wines Robert Parker must taste, to describe something as “thrilling” and note how well it stacks up against the region’s star châteaux, Montlandrie 2011 is clearly an exciting addition to any collection. 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, this Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is bursting with blackcurrants, cherry liqueur, prunes, pencil shavings, citrus blossom, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, balsamic and herb reduction and just a pinch of salt. Jancis Robinson has called it a “charmer”, and for the money, this is an outstanding modern Claret that you can really get your teeth into.
The 12 hectare Château Montlandrie was bought by Château l’Eglise-Clinet’s Denis Durantou in 2009. In 2013, he introduced Cabernet Sauvignon into the blend, making the 2011 now quite an unusual, and therefore sought-after, vintage.£3.8 per 100.00ml
