BriO de Cantenac Brown Margaux 2015
90 points, “Dark cherry, plum, mocha, espresso, liquorice and spice are all amped up in the BriO, Cantenac Brown's second wine… the 2015 is a terrific choice for drinking now.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
BriO de Cantenac Brown is the second wine of Château Cantenac Brown. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, BriO is aged for 12 months in oak and fined the traditional way with egg whites. First made at the turn of the Millennium, as the name suggests, the idea was to create a modern wine with vigour and vivacity. Which is exactly what they achieved in the benchmark vintage of 2015. Fruit crumble, cherry chocolate liqueurs, coffee cake, cassis, Liquorice Allsorts, mixed spice and wildflowers; it’s an extremely attractive red to open up and drink immediately for any occasion.
Château Cantenac Brown is an enormous Tudor mansion in the middle of Margaux with a huge swan lake. This unique building came into being when the estate was bought by a Scottish painter called John Lewis Brown, who decided to build an ostentatious home from home. It then passed to Armand Lalande, the owner of Léoville-Poyferré, and then to AXA, the owners of Pichon Baron. In 2006 it was eventually bought by the Halabi family, who brought in winemaker Jose Sanfins and the quality has skyrocketed ever since.£5.2 per 100.00ml
