Grand Vin Pomerol 2009 - Chateau l'Eglise-Clinet

Chateau l'Eglise-Clinet

Grand Vin Pomerol 2009

99+ points, “Proprietor Denis Durantou has produced a blockbuster Pomerol…  This 2009 is absolutely profound.” – Robert Parker

Denis Durantou’s cult Pomerol “has constantly entranced [wine critic Neal Martin’s] senses”, having quickly become one of the region’s most sought-after wines in any vintage, and a real rival to Pétrus and Lafleur. Only around 5 hectares in size, the wine is made in tiny quantities and proves a battle to come by. Located on the plateau where soils are more gravelly, L’Eglise-Clinet is a concentrated and complex style of Pomerol that needs decades of careful cellaring before it unfolds its full wingspan.

2009 was maybe one of Pomerol’s greatest ever vintages and so the uber-intense L’Eglise-Clinet is a must-have. Powerful and dark, the wine envelopes your tongue in cherry liqueur chocolates, graphite, truffle, blackberry, cassis, orange peel, liquorice and blueberry. A truly remarkable vintage even considering the high standards set by this estate. Tuck this into the cellar and forget about it for a while, maybe even a couple of decades – it’s really that good.
