Moulin de La Lagune 2014
Moulin de La Lagune is the second wine of Château La Lagune. In recent years the wines from this Haut-Médoc estate have become much richer and more elegant. The 2014 is full of juicy blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry, smoothed by French oak, but kept fresh by the vintage’s food-friendly acidity. Open this up with autumnal and wintry dishes, grills and roasts.
Château La Lagune has a long history dating back to the 16th Century. Although ravaged by wars, frosts and changes of ownership, La Lagune is a château on the rise and very much one to watch. It now resides under the stewardship of the Frey family, who also own Paul Jaboulet Âiné in the Rhône, are major shareholders in Billecart-Salmon Champagne and enlisted the help of the late, great Denis Dubourdieu in turning La Lagune’s fortunes around. The talented Caroline Frey – who can be found show jumping when she isn’t making wine – began the estate’s conversion to organic and biodynamic farming 2013. This Haut-Médoc is now a serious force to be reckoned with.£4.27 per 100.00ml
