91 points, “The 2019 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is a soft, supple easygoing wine to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet red cherry, red fruit flowers, mint, blood orange, spice and rose petal perk up the finish. Readers will find a charming Saint-Julien that captures the personality of the year in spades.” – Antonio Galloni

90 points, “Blackcurrant florality on the nose. Great sweetness and juice with creamy edges, too, and again the aromatics come out. Soft, playful, nice depth, unshowy but nicely balanced and well presented. It's for easy drinking. Gentle and comforting.” – Decanter

Saint-Julien’s Château Lagrange has been boosted by massive sums of money from owners Suntory. The Japanese company also introduced a second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, which in great years like 2019 can rival Grand Vins from lesser vintages. The investment has clearly paid off judging by the reviews from Decanter and Antonio Galloni.

2019 was a fabulous year for claret. Jancis Robinson noted, “This was a pretty wonderful vintage for producers… The wines shone in a blind retasting in January 2023 and the vintage was voted by tasters the best in the previous 10 years.” So, don’t miss out.

Expect a little spice from the Petit Verdot and a wonderful purity of fruit – cassis, blackberry, wild strawberry and plum. There’s also notes of graphite and orange blossom in the mix. This is great value and an exceptional food wine that will pair with just about anything. Think sausage and kale hotpot, cassoulet, roast dinner, lasagne and comfort food.
