The Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 - Chateau Montelena

Chateau Montelena

The Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

“The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a gorgeous, mid-weight wine laced with mint, cassis, sweet herbs and tobacco. It is an understated, gracious wine from start to finish.” – Antonio Galloni

One of Napa Valley’s legends, this Cabernet Sauvignon with just the gentlest splash of Cabernet Franc is an absolute masterclass in finesse. Now in its drinking window this vintage presented wines that feel quite Old World in style with wonderful aromatics and notes of dark chocolate, so treat this as you might a First Growth Bordeaux.

Established in 1882 and with an imposing looking gothic castle, Château Montelena shot to fame in 1976 when its wine outperformed famous French rivals at a blind tasting by French wine experts organised by Stephen Spurrier – known as “The Judgement of Paris”. That wine was made by Jim Barrett, who said that the result was “not bad for kids from the sticks”. The wines are now made by Bo Barrett, who can trace his family back to Ireland and has forged links with Irish whisky makers and creators of Green Spot, Mitchell & Son. This forward-thinking bunch have been championing sustainability for over 40 years, they’re Napa Green Certified, their deep cellars require very little energy and they have a huge array of solar panels. This is a family run business and Château Montelena want their grandkids to grow up enjoying the same vineyards.
