Grand Vin Saint-Julien 2006
“A round, aromatic, soft, sensual 2006 to enjoy over the next 10-13 years.” – Robert Parker
One of only ten Quatrièmes Crus Classés, the very reasonably priced Château Talbot has an enormous following. Bought to drink by connoisseurs - rather than as an investment - availability of high quality back-vintages are few and far between. Named after Sir John Talbot, the Earl of Shrewsbury, who was killed in battle by the French just outside Bordeaux ending many hundreds of years of English rule. Made the year before Stephane Derenoncourt joined the château, so it’s a great one to have in the collection to plot the history of this classic Claret. Sleek cassis combines with tobacco, game, new leather, sweet vanilla, cherry jam, tangy redcurrant and something of a stately home library with its polished mahogany, leather-bound books and dusty spiciness. The experience of the Cordier family – who have run this estate for five generations – means that you are in safe hands with this beautiful Bordeaux, and we recommend pairing with Sunday roasts, comfort food and slow-cooked stews.
