Chateau Talbot

Grand Vin Saint-Julien 2016

94 points, “This is already a beautiful St.-Julien... However, there are some serious reserves in this wine that need time to be released.” – James Suckling

93 points, “It's a big, sculpted, gorgeously confident wine.” – Decanter Magazine

93 points, “It’s the texture as well as the purity that set this apart, and readers looking for a great value should purchase a case of this beauty.” – Jeb Dunnuck

One of only ten Quatrièmes Crus Classés, the very reasonably priced Château Talbot has an enormous following. Bought to drink by connoisseurs – rather than as an investment – availability of high quality back-vintages such as this are few and far between. It was named after Sir John Talbot, the Earl of Shrewsbury, who was killed in battle by the French just outside Bordeaux which ended many hundreds of years of English rule. Made under the watchful eye of Stephane Derenoncourt this wine overdelivers with a winning combination of crème de cassis, blackberry, cigar box, smoke, leather, black cherry and floral, almost Margaux-esque, notes. Classic Claret to be served with Sunday roasts, comfort food and slow-cooked stews.
