Clase Azul Mezcal Guerrero is crafted from Papalote agave a variety that grows wild in the mountains of Guerrero a state on the southwestern coast of Mexico. Guerrero is a rugged place famed for its fresh produce markets precious metal mines and tourist beaches as well as being where many of the first uprisings that sparked the Mexican revolution took place. It’s home to many indigenous communities including Nahuas Mixtecs Tlapanecs and Amuzgos as well as the descendants of a Samurai delegation who settled there in the 1600s. So as you can imagine it has a big cultural significance when it comes to gastronomy art history and landscape.

This spirit brings all that heritage together. The ancient art of Mezcal reimagined by a company renowned for its luxurious Tequila filled into a bottle that pays tribute to the wisdom tenderness and warrior spirit of the women of Guerrero. The striking green-coloured bottled represents jade a precious stone of extreme value to Mexico’s ancestral cultures. The four-petaled flower pattern references the story of the pre-Hispanic gods who created the world as we know it today. And on the colourful cap you’ll discover a hummingbird the messenger of the gods and a symbol of the connection between this special land and the mystical beyond. The liquid inside begins with wild Agave Cupreata known as Papalote. It takes 5-15 years to mature is only found in Michoacán and Guerrero and is renowned for the smooth-textured and richly flavoured Mezcal it produces. This is only the second Mezcal to be released by Clase Azul and it feels like it has taken influence from the coast and the verdant mountains of the state. Mezcal Guerrero opens with aromas of grapefruit peel rosemary freshly hewn oak exotic flowers and smoke. On the rich and full-bodied palate it delivers more wood oily peanut butter chamomile lemon pepper tobacco and a funky salty note reminiscent of seaweed. Consider pairing it tiritas de pescado (a traditional dish of the Guerrero region that is similar to an onion-heavy ceviche) octopus buttery fish dishes pozole guacamole or salted peanuts.
