Tribbiera Rouge 2017 - Clos Culombu

Clos Culombu

Tribbiera Rouge 2017

Corsica has a winemaking history going back to 570 BC and has been described by Decanter Magazine as “one of the most exciting places to drink wine in France.” Shouldn’t you be getting involved with a bottle or two of the island’s red?

The Suzzoni family’s stunning Clos Culombu winery is wedged between the sea at the Gulf of Calvi and the towering snow-capped Montegrosso mountains. There they make the beautiful Tribbiera from Rhône-style Syrah and the local grape varieties Nielluccio and Sciacarello. Although this latter duo are not household names, they can be thought of as Corsica’s answer to Sangiovese and Nebbiolo. So in a nutshell Tribbiera Rouge is Southern France meets Northern Italy with a dash of rustic island charm.

Organic and in conversion to biodynamic, Clos Culombu’s Tribbiera is well worthy of its Gold Medal at the Concours Général Agricole 2019. Ruby-red and completely unoaked, it’s bursting with summer fruit pudding, blueberry muffin, wild strawberry, cherry liqueur and wild mint flavours. Open it up with lighter meals, tomato-based sauces and barbeques; then raise a glass to your new favourite French wine region.
