Cune Rioja Reserva 2016 Half Bottle 375ml
90 points, “The current release of the first wine ever produced at CVNE is the 2016 Cune Reserva, a classical blend of Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo from Haro. 2016 was a cooler vintage that delivered wines with less alcohol and good freshness, and this textbook example was fermented in 20,000-litre stainless steel vats and matured in French and American oak barrels for 24 months… very tasty and fresh… A Reserva for the table and the best Reserva since the 2010.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
This is classic Rioja for when you don’t want to open a whole bottle.
We love this vegan-friendly and ever-reliable Cune Rioja Reserva in its half-bottle format. It’s just perfect for weekdays, picnics or when you’ve opened a white with your starter, but fancy red with your main. Immensely silky with rich blackberry, plum and wild strawberry fruit, plus a dark seam of balsamic, liquorice and leather, and lots of sophisticated spices from the fine oak. Just yummy.
Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, which is shortened to CVNE but was once misspelled and has been known as Cune (pronounced “coo-nay”) by many ever since, is one of Riojas ‘big four’ based in Haro (the others being Muga, La Rioja Alta and Lopez de Heredia). It was established in 1870s by the pioneering Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa, whose descendants still run the winery to this day, and features a warehouse designed by Gustave Eiffel. The grapes for Cune Rioja Reserva are handpicked in the Rioja Alta sub-region and were vinified in the original 1879 premises and matured in a warehouse designed by Gustave Eiffel.
