Distillers Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky 2019

Located in the Cairngorm National Park, Dalwhinnie is not only the highest, but also one of the coldest distilleries in Scotland. In such harsh conditions, you might expect a fiery belly-burner of a Scotch, but not so. Dalwhinnie is about as smooth and gentle as they come. Stylistically, it’s situated between the floral and grassy style of the Lowlands and the firmer richness of Speyside, which begins some 25 miles to the north. Dalwhinnie was almost unknown prior to its inclusion in Diageo’s Classic Malts series in 1987, and the majority of the spirit produced there still goes into the Buchanan's and Black & White blends, despite it being one of bestselling malts worldwide.

This Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition was created in 2004 and bottled in 2019. It’s a limited release expression that has undergone a second maturation in casks previously filled with Oloroso Sherry. This maturation process adds a fruitcake and marmalade complexity without masking the honey, vanilla, shortbread and heather notes that are typical of the distillery. Lifted and pretty on the nose, the palate is well defined and spicy, with a soft balance, and a sweet persistent finish.
