Blanc de Blancs Collection 1999
“The 1999 Blanc de Blancs Collection is a gorgeous Champagne for drinking now and over the next decade or two.” – Antonio Galloni
Awarding it 94 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate described this as “simply a great vintage Champagne that has been produced only in the vintages of 1964, 1970, 1983, 1985, 1988, 1991, 1990, 1999, 2000 and 2002.” This rare release from 1999 comes from a warm vintage and received extended lees ageing, very little dosage and a label applied by hand. Held back in the Delamotte cellars in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger it has immense power but a gossamer feel. Champagne aficionados will not want to miss this rare opportunity.
Champagne Delamotte is made by the same team that creates the almost mythical Salon. One of the oldest houses, it has been a benchmark of the Champagne region since 1760. The height of fashion it remains so rare as to be obtainable to most. The Blanc de Blancs is made using pure Chardonnay from Grand Cru sites in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Avize. The result is a sparkling wine of immaculate texture and extreme complexity; imagine Grand Cru Burgundy laced with honey caramelised hazelnuts, freshly baked baguette, decadent pastries, apricots drizzled with orange water, chamomile tea and dried herbs. Pair with a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, the finest smoked salmon, lobster, truffles, chanterelles or the most opulent of breakfasts.
