The Delas Saint-Esprit Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc comes from vineyards whipped by the harsh Mistral wind. This keeps the vines healthy and hardy, and also slows the ripening process, allowing great complexity to build in the grapes. The result is a wine that punches well above its price point. Crafted using Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Viognier, this is an aromatic and golden white. The nose leads with blossom, heather honey, hay, quinine and dried herbs. The fruit element of the flavour profile is definitely in the yellow spectrum – think melon, lemon, pineapple, peach and apricot – and it’s joined by a little spice, chalk and creamy cashew for good measure. Open this suave Rhône offering up when you’re grilling fish on the barbeque, serving up roast chicken, or having friends around for an aperitif.

Established by Charles Audibert and Philippe Delas in 1835, Delas Frères remained a family business for over 140 years and is revered for the elegance of its wines. Already incredibly well respected, this Rhône powerhouse based in Tournon has now passed into the ownership of the Rouzauds – one of the wine world’s most powerful and discerning families who also look after Champagne Louis Roederer, Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Domaines Ott, Ramos Pinto and Champagne Deutz. So you are in very safe hands, especially considering that head winemaker Jacques Grange worked for Michel Chapoutier and Jean-Luc Colombo before joining Delas Frères. Under his watchful eye the quality has gone through the roof and the wines have gained an almost Burgundy-esque finesse.
