Sakura Edition Brut Rosé Champagne NV
Kawaii desu ne? Deutz Champagne – a brand with an enormous following in Japan – has launched a stunning Sakura Edition of their Brut Rosé Champagne NV to mark the blossoming of the cherry trees. Anyone who has witnessed this eruption of riotous pink flowers and the joy it brings in the Land of the Rising Sun, will know that it’s worthy of serious celebration. And what better way do it than with an explosion of delicate pink bubbles?
Crafted from predominantly Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, with just a splash of Côte des Blancs Chardonnay and red wine made from Pinot Noir grown in the lieu-dit Meurtet vineyard behind the winery in Äy. As refreshing as the gentle breezes that send the cherry flower petals cascading down from the trees, flavours of cherry sorbet, blossom, raspberry, wild strawberry, cranberry and pink grapefruit flutter past your taste buds. Mellowed by the three years it has spent ageing on the lees, The Sakura Rosé has begun to develop complementary notes of whipped cream and shortbread. This beautiful bottle captures not only the Japanese spirit, but also the beauty of life – much like the sakura themselves.
Champagne Deutz was founded by a pair of Germans – William Deutz and Pierre Glederman – in 1838, but now falls under the stewardship of the Rouzauds – one of the wine world’s most powerful families and owners of Champagne Louis Roederer, Domaines Ott, Ramos Pinto, Maison Delas and of course Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. Possibly one of the most beautiful properties in all of Champagne and one that renowned Champagne expert Richard Juhlin describes as “one of my absolute favourite houses”. Rumour has it that there’s always a chilled bottle of Deutz waiting for her wherever Madonna goes.
