Rosé Brut 2009
Digby Fine English was created to produce the ultimate expression of English sparkling wine. Drawing inspiration from the history of English invention, the company's namesake is Kenelm Digby, the Englishman who invented the modern wine bottle in the 1630s. The adventurous house takes a unique approach to producing world-class sparkling wine: that of négociant. It cultivates long-term relationships with some of the best vineyards in England then focuses its energies on the artform of blending, where true quality is born.
With a remarkable generosity of spirit this 2009 Vintage Rosé Brut draws from the best of Digby's Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. This tiny-production blend is made only in superlative vintages and indeed the first follow-on vintage came five years later, in 2014. It is often described as punchy - or sometimes a 'gentleman's rosé'. One of the key reasons for this 'crunchiness' comes from the production process: the blend contains the best Pinot Noir grapes which were vinified into red wine in oak. This Rosé is a confident, coral-coloured fizz which is refined yet vivacious. Extra time on yeast lees gives delicious toasty characters with a finish that lingers and lingers, making Digby’s Rosé ideal for pre-dinner drinks, post-dinner toasting or perhaps a spot of afternoon tea. The Rosé is magnificent with smoked goats' cheese, smoked salmon, scones and cream, Eton Mess and even hamburgers.
