Vintage Rosé Brut English Sparkling 2014

93 points, “A toasty notion of smoky hazelnut accompanies the strawberry notes on the nose. Rounded creaminess and smooth foam reign on the palate where strawberry notions are rounded out by slightly oaky toastiness. A very elegant, grown-up pink fizz that will stand up to food.” – Wine Enthusiast

This is a very English sparkling rosé that’s now making waves on the other side of the pond in the US, as demonstrated by the rave review in Wine Enthusiast. But only 1,000 bottles were released, so if you want to get hold of it, you’ll need to be quick.

Digby Fine English was created to produce the ultimate expression of English sparkling wine. Drawing inspiration from the history of English invention, the company's namesake is Kenelm Digby, the Englishman who invented the modern wine bottle in the 1630s. The adventurous house takes a unique approach to producing world-class sparkling wine: that of négociant. It cultivates long-term relationships with some of the best vineyards in England then focuses its energies on the artform of blending, where true quality is born.

The deeply generous 2014 Vintage Rosé Brut enjoys the best Pinot Noir fruit Digby have received since the phenomenal 2009 harvest. This tiny-production blend is made only in superlative vintages, as proven by the gap of five years since the release of the 2009. It’s a punchy and muscular style of rosé but retains a remarkable freshness. One of the key reasons for this ‘crunchiness’ and ‘chunkiness’ comes from the production process: the blend contains the best Pinot Noir grapes which were vinified into red wine in oak.

This vegan-friendly Rosé is a confident, coral-coloured fizz which is refined yet vivacious. Extra time on yeast lees gives delicious toasty characters with a finish that lingers and lingers, making Digby’s Rosé ideal for pre-dinner drinks, post-dinner toasting or perhaps a spot of afternoon tea. It’s also magnificent with smoked goats' cheese, smoked salmon, scones and cream, Eton Mess and even hamburgers.
