Alain Graillot used to work in agricultural chemicals, but he always dreamt of packing it in to make wine. So in 1985, he did just that. Renting a plot of vines on the site of an old pig farm, he has quickly risen to become one of the most respected winemakers in the Rhône Valley. His ethos is simply to make appealing, sensibly-priced wines that people want to drink. Mission successful.
This beautiful Crozes-Hermitage has oodles of red fruit and hedgerow berries, interlaced with smoke, pepper and powerful tannins that suggest a long life ahead of it. Graillot’s use of organic farming and small Burgundy casks give his wines real finesse. Juicy and supple on the palate, it’s a warming wine best to be enjoyed with casseroles, grilled meats, game or wild mushrooms.£4.8 per 100.00ml
