Chambolle-Musigny Derriére le Four 2013
Located midway between the Grands Crus of Musigny and Bonnes Mares on the outskirts of Chambolle-Musigny, you’ll find Derriére le Four. Its name comes from the fact that it’s located just behind the village’s old oven. 2013 was a challenging vintage that had to be harvested extremely late, but these 45-year-old vines were perfectly equipped to deal with it. And it resulted in a dark and powerful wine with a wonderful seam of finesse. The blackberry, black plum and blackcurrant flavours, as well as the palate-cleansing acidity, make it an ideal choice for a Sunday Roast.
Anne and Hervé Sigaut have been quietly making exceptional wines since 1990. Those in Pinot Noir’s inner circle have known this for some time, but because they don’t own any Grands Crus they remain inexplicably under the radar. But the cat is now well and truly out of the bag and demand is ramping up as they have spectacular old vine parcels.
On tasting the 2013s, Wine Advocate “found much to admire at Domaine Sigaut. This is straightforward, uncomplicated winemaking respectful to their terroir. There is nothing pretentious or showy here: just delicious, complex Pinot Noir that offers purity on the nose, mineralité and precision on the palate without short-changing on fruit.”
