Marcel Guigal admitted that the warm 2015 growing season was the vintage of a lifetime for him and his reds. That heat can be trickier to handle when it comes to the whites but this Hermitage Blanc is fabulous. It’s a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne with elegant lemon curd jasmine honeysuckle flamed tangerine zest apricot floral honey marzipan cashew peanut and leesy nuances. We love those nutty notes with satay romesco korma or a Vietnamese curry and broken rice. Alternatively it also pairs wonderfully with roast chicken buttery lemon sole creamy crab pasta or lobster.
E. Guigal is a simply legendary winery which has passed from founder Etienne to his son Marcel and now on to his grandson Philippe. According to Robert Parker it’s “a qualitative locomotive that has brought attention to the Rhône Valley raising the quality bar for the entire region.” And Parker has backed this up by awarding it more perfect 100-point scores than any other producer on the planet. Although famed for their Northern Rhône reds the whites are not to be missed either.
