Sauvignon Blanc 2016
98 points, “Wow. The complex aromas are so compelling… Excellent intensity and crispness. Just the right amount of phenolic tension. Great purity.” – James Suckling
92+, “Drinking nicely now, it should cellar gracefully for 5-7+ years.” – Wine Advocate
Although famed for the reds it produces, true fine wine aficionados should not overlook this white wine from Eisele Vineyard. The Sauvignon Blanc from this Napa Valley legend is as complex as this grape variety can possibly be. Expect green apple, vanilla ice cream, crunchy white peach, lemon meringue pie, sea salt, mango, passion fruit sorbet, lime, fresh bread, dried herbs, floral perfume, struck match and steely acidity. It’s a wine you can very much lose yourself in.
The Eisele Vineyard in northeast Napa Valley was first planted in the 1880s, making the idea of this being New World slightly strange. Over the years the grapes have been vinified by some of the region’s top names, including Ridge and Joseph Phelps. The vineyard was taken over by the Araujo family, who moved to organic farming, and then two years later to a biodynamic approach. It was then bought by François and François-Henri Pinault's Artemis Group, who also own Château Latour, Clos du Tart and the auction house Christie’s, not to mention being controlling shareholders of Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Stella McCartney. This shows what a fashionable and sought-after property this is. Now the wines are available, grown, produced and bottled at the Eisele Vineyard in Calistoga.£16.67 per 100.00ml
