12 Year Old 2007 Cask Strength Rum

After Foursquare 2005 was crowned the Supreme Champion Spirit at the International Spirits Challenge 2018, everybody has been waiting for the next full strength release in the “Exceptional Cask Series”. There was no 2006, so build the up has been agonising, but now we are proud to announce the arrival of Foursquare’s 2007 Cask Strength Rum.

It’s a blend of pot-still and column-still rums that were all crafted in 2007 by what The Telegraph newspaper has quite rightly called “the world’s best rum distillery”. Filled into ex-Bourbon barrels, it was left to mature for 12 years in the tropical paradise of Barbados. Considering that maturation in this climate is two or three times faster than in Europe, this is exceptional value for money if you compare it to a Scotch of 20 years or more. There’s no sugar added, no colouring, no additives whatsoever and no gimmicky packaging, just an exceptional rum. Richard Seale is probably one of the greatest distillers in the world today. The single-vintage releases allow him more freedom as there’s no need to commit to large volumes or creating a reproducible style, instead he’s just able to focus on creating the highest quality rum from the barrels he filled in 2007. And what a rum it is. It erupts out of the glass like a Bourbon with lashings of freshly hewn wood and sweet vanilla; it then seamlessly morphs into creamy chocolate-covered raisins, crème brûlée, clove, cinnamon, crystallised ginger and dried apricots soaked in Sauternes; before finishing with a Szechuan peppercorn prickle from its 59%.

Foursquare 2007 was lovingly crafted in the birthplace of rum by the same family-run distillery that brought you R.L. Seale’s, Doorly’s, Rum Sixty Six, Velvet Falernum, not to mention countless collaborations with Velier’s Luca Gargano and their friends the Guardians of Rum. This latest creation by Master Distiller Richard Seale is another masterpiece in an enviable and highly collectable back catalogue.
