Barbera d'Alba Vigna Francia 2015 - Giacomo Conterno

Giacomo Conterno

Barbera d'Alba Vigna Francia 2015

94 points, “Boasting immediate depth and dimension, the 2015 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Francia is a commanding and confident wine… It is very difficult to achieve this level of complexity with Barbera, but Roberto Conterno does so with flawless perfection.” – Wine Advocate

The warm 2015 vintage served up an exquisite and complex Barbera d’Alba from the Francia vineyard. It feels very Mediterranean with ripe orange, lavender, black olive, spice, and a hint of barbeque coals mixed through red and black berry fruits. Full and dense but with a lively light-footedness, this wine is an absolute pleasure with classics like homemade pizza, simple tomato-based pasta, roast dinner, or a peppery mushroom risotto.

Probably Piedmont’s finest producer, there can be no better proponent of ‘traditional’ Barolo than Giacomo Conterno. The winery has passed from Giacomo to Giovanni and now resides in the hands of Roberto. According to Robert Parker: “While Conterno’s wines have often been profound, in recent vintages the estate has found another level of finesse.” So, if you haven’t yet tried them, now is the time.
