Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky Batch 8
As with the previous releases in the limited-edition Cask Strength series from GlenDronach, Batch 8 has been lovingly matured for 10 years in a mix of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks and bottled non-chill filtered at a natural strength of 61% ABV, making it a fabulous winter warmer.
It’s a silky sipper, brimming with sandalwood, freshly ground coffee beans, manuka honey, cocoa-dusted dark chocolate praline truffles, cherry chocolate liqueurs, sawdust, warm mince pies, marmalade, plum crumble, sultanas-laced fruitcake, tobacco and a lovely chilli pepper heat. The unashamedly old-school GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 8 is a fine choice to have in for the festive season or for hip flasks on winter walks.
GlenDronach’s history has been a tumultuous one. Burned to the ground a decade after it was founded, bounced from hand to hand like a hot potato, mothballed and resurrected, it keeps coming back like the Terminator. However, since being taken under the wing of The Benriach Distillery Company and more recently Brown-Forman, things have settled down in the valley of Forgue, Aberdeenshire. Whisky maker Rachel Barrie has produced a procession of exceptional, richly sherried single malts, with each release displaying even more character than the last. Rachel Barrie’s father is particularly partial to a GlenDronach and she was raised just down the road, so this is one of the first distilleries she ever tasted and one that she's therefore incredibly passionate about.£11.36 per 100.00ml
