The Legacy Series Chapter One 2019 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Building a legacy takes time. Luckily Glengoyne knows a thing or two about not only taking their sweet time (this is the first global release in two years), but also about creating something that will stay with you forever.
Glengoyne boasts the slowest stills in Scotland. Like a slow-cooking a stew, this results in real depth of flavour and complexity in the final dram. The Legacy Series looks back at the history of this underrated distillery. The inaugural release, Chapter One, is a celebration of Cochrane Cartwright, the distillery manager from 1869 and the man that taught them to slow things down. Matured in a combination of first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks and refill casks. Cochrane Cartwright was the first person to introduce Sherry oak to Glengoyne, so this new dram is made just the way he would have liked it, 150 years on.
This another bottling that proves you don’t need an age statement to create a wonderful dram. Full and rich with notes of sticky toffee pudding, Medjool dates stuffed with almonds, pear poached in mulled wine and dolloped with vanilla cream, a slice of Christmas cake, and a finish of dried apricots, sultanas and figs doused in sweet Sherry. Warming and satisfying, they may have called it The Legacy Series, but we guarantee that you aren’t going to leave this to anyone.
Glengoyne is completely unpeated, so there’s no smoke behind which you could hide a dodgy cask or a poor cut. Based in Dumgoyne, this is one of the most southerly Highland whiskies you’ll find, making it a truly unique proposition. They focus on Sherry cask maturation despite the vast expense, they never colour their whiskies with caramel, they win awards for their sustainable approach to the environment and they’re owned by a Scottish family.£8.57 per 100.00ml
