Mitchell & Son Green Spot has rapidly become a legend. Although it doesn’t have an age statement it’s crafted using pot still whiskeys that have been aged in a combination of Bourbon and Sherry casks for between seven and ten years. What emerges from those precious barrels is a creamy whiskey that tastes like it’s laced with barley sugars porridge vanilla custard toffee apples greengage jam olive oil mint leaves and verdant trees. It’s a gorgeous whiskey that thoroughly deserves the praise from Whisky Advocate and the countless awards that is has received.
Mitchell & Son Wine Merchants & Whiskey Bonders started off buying new make spirit from Jameson’s and ageing them in wine and fortified wine casks back in the 1800s. Ageing their whiskey beneath the streets of Dublin they marked the barrels with a dab of paint to signify how long it needed to mature for – a blue spot of seven years green for ten yellow for twelve and red for fifteen – hence why they are now known as Spot Whiskeys.
