Grappa di Amarone
The historic winemaking house of Guerrieri-Rizzardi was formed in the early 1900s when Carlo Rizzardi from Valpolicella married Guiseppina Guerrieri from Bardolino. Since then, this forward-thinking company has grown by purchasing property in Soave and has modernised by relocating its winery to Bardolino, where it’s now powered entirely by solar energy. Through keeping their yields incredibly low, they ensure a richness, character and quality that’s almost unsurpassed in the Veneto region.
After Guerrieri-Rizzardi have dried their grapes and created their exquisite Amarone, they take the remaining Corvina, Rondinella, Barbera and Sangiovese grape solids and distil them. The resulting spirit is then aged in oak barrels of various sizes for 12 months. Those barrels are then blended, to create this amber elixir. Gently smoky with notes of toasted walnut and raisin bread, vanilla, dried prunes and apricots, cherry liqueur chocolates, tobacco, plum jam and blackberries squished on antique furniture, this is an incredible postprandial drop.
