Grown on some of the world’s highest vineyards in the Andes, this Argentine Malbec is a total highflyer. Aged in French oak for over a year, every sip is a sensual tango on your taste buds especially if you’re having it with grilled meats and big stews.

You need strong vines to cling on and survive Tupungato’s harsh winters, high altitude and hot summer sunshine. Luckily we’ve uncovered some of the very best. The Harvey Nichols Tupungato Malbec is an elegant affair with dense blackberry, black cherry and crème de cassis flavours accompanied by dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, black pepper and sophisticated oak. Dark and silky, this red takes the Harvey Nichols wine range to new heights.

This Malbec was made exclusively for Harvey Nichols by the family-owned Belhara Estate – named after a mountain in the Basque country. Nestled in Argentina’s Uco Valley beneath blue skies and surrounded by the sharp teeth of snow-capped mountains, this winery is so exciting because of its owner and winemaker Stephen Huse, who studied in Bordeaux and then did stints at fine wine heavyweights like Château Margaux Mouton-Rothschild Harlan Estate and Almaviva – Concha y Toro’s collaboration with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. That’s some pedigree and it goes some way to explaining why Belhara Estate’s wines are so good. The rest is down to the quality of their parcels in premium appellation such as Altamira Gualtallary and Tupungato some of which contain vines that are 80 years old.
