Salice Salentino Riserva 2016

This well-heeled little number hails from the Salento peninsula, the fashionable stiletto of Italy’s boot. Made from fruity Negroamaro grapes on the family-run Cantele estate, cooled by winds from both the Ionian and Adriatic seas, it’s an absolute must with meat dishes, especially Ossobuco, and ripe cheeses.

Our Salice Salentino Riserva DOC is pure Negroamaro – a grape whose name means ‘black and bitter’ for the deep colour, chunky tannins and earthy dark chocolate and black tea flavours it produces – matured in French oak for approximately six months. Intense and silky smooth with sophisticated woody spices, this wine offers a quality to price ratio that’s off the charts.

Harvey Nichols Salice Salentino Riserva is the latest chapter in our love story with Cantele. Giovanni Battista and his wife Teresa Manara visited Salento in the 1950s and fell in love with the region. Now the whole family makes wine there. Long, sunny days and cool sea breezes help them create rich and ripe wines with elegant balance. This eco-friendly producer also loves the environment. They’ve stopped using pesticides and herbicides and are at the forefront of monitoring the impact of global warming on their beloved wine region.
