A very grand Grand Vin indeed this blue-blooded red is a true aristocrat. Produced by Baron Edmond de Rothschild part of the legendary wine-making dynasty its blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc creates a classic Claret with fine pedigree. This is a big full-bodied wine and as you’d expect it’s heavenly with grilled meat and cheeses.

Part of our limited-edition Premium Range this Montagne Saint-Émilion is something special. The eagle eyed will notice the five arrows on the capsule hinting that this exquisite Bordeaux was created by the Rothschilds a family that gave the world the First Growths Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild. In 2003 they acquired and completely renovated the under-the-radar property located in Puisseguin that this wine comes from. The vineyards sit atop superb limestone-rich soils and date back to the 12th Century making them ideal for the leading grape variety in Saint-Émilion Merlot. 2018 produced “powerful deep-coloured wines” in Bordeaux according to Jancis Robinson who also suggested that this “may be one of the region’s longer-lived vintages.” Couple that longevity with the expertise of the Rothschild family and you know that you or someone you love is in for a real treat.

Matured in French oak for 12 months the Harvey Nichols Montagne Saint-Émilion 2018 opens with a nose of dark chocolate shavings red cherries plum crumble and oak. The palate continues in a similar vein dominated by rich ripe and concentrated red and black fruits but is also seasoned with sophisticated notes of mocha vanilla exotic spices white pepper and sea salt. It will continue to improve for a decade or more and really spreads its wings following a little aeration or decanting. However we only created a limited run of 1 200 bottles so be careful they don’t fly off before you’re able to catch one or two.
