You get a lot of bang for your buck with this fabulous 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley legend Joseph Phelps. With its sublimely bold combination of dark berries chocolate and spice you’ll be California dreaming down to the last drop.

Joseph Phelps took over his father’s construction business in the 1960s. The company secured a contract to build a winery in Napa Valley and he promptly fell in love with the region. In the early-1970s he bought a cattle ranch near St Helena and began planting vines. In 1974 he and his winemaker Walter Schug created the iconic Insignia – California’s first proprietary Bordeaux-style blend. This wine changed the course of American wine forever. Today Joseph Phelps farms more than 170 hectares of vines over nine estates and unlike many of its contemporaries of that 1976 Judgement of Paris era it remains family owned.

The Harvey Nichols Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon 4% Petit Verdot 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec many of which were grapes declassified from Insignia 2017 (a wine that retails for more than £250 a bottle and was awarded 96 points by Decanter Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck). Matured in old French and American oak for fourteen months this modern and polished red is a lush affair with notes of crème de cassis blackberries red cherry cranberry and pomegranate not to mention dark chocolate graphite and savoury spices. This limited-edition addition to the Harvey Nichols Premium Range is one that savvy wine lovers will not want to miss.
