Few things hit the mark like a well-made G&T. That’s why Harvey Nichols created this Gin & Tonic Gift Set, containing 200ml bottles of our Foraged Dry Gin and Rose & Hollyhock Gin, plus eight tonic waters in two different flavours to play with.
The gins were created in collaboration with our good friends at The Secret Garden Distillery. The Foraged Dry Gin is our classic expression, crafted using ingredients foraged from an ancient Roman juniper forest. The Secret Garden Distillery are the only people who have access to that 2,000-year-old wood, and they must climb hundreds of metres to harvest the botanicals there. We’re keeping the unique recipe secret, but we will tell you that as well as that rare and magical juniper, the ingredients include coriander, dandelion and Scots pine. Deeply aromatic, it opens with a big hit of comforting juniper, instantly letting you know that this is proper gin. That’s followed by grass, white pepper, crisp mountain air and pine that evokes the nostalgia of collecting the Christmas tree. The palate is silky, smooth and full-bodied, displaying notes of pine needles, lemon zest, savoury olive oil, cracked black peppercorns and summer berry sorbet.
The Rose & Hollyhock Gin is a dry and serious piece of kit. We think it’s the ultimate pink gin. It was crafted using juniper, angelica root, coriander, lemon verbena, geranium, damask rose and hollyhock flowers, all of which are grown in the Secret Garden itself. Like its companion, it opens with that potent and satisfying hit of juniper. Rather than dominating the flavour profile, rose provides sweet notes of Turkish delight, which are the perfect counterfoil to all that peppery, piney juniper. Lemon verbena brings a refreshing citrus element, while the dark hollyhock flowers deliver that stunning colour and delicate herbal notes.
When your gin and tonic is predominantly made up of the latter, make sure you have the very best on the market. We searched the length and breadth of the British Isles for the perfect partner to create our tonic and found Claire Rennie in the tiny Aberdeenshire’s parish of Pitsligo. Her company, Summer House Drinks, are masters of their art, growing many of the botanicals used in their own walled garden and using no artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners or preservatives. Enjoy two of our game-changing varieties: Classic and Cucumber & Lime. Our Spirits Buyer, Nick Larsson-Bell (Retail Buyer of the Year 2022), worked painstakingly on the flavour combination of the Classic Tonic Water. In the final recipe, punchy quinine is rounded out by soft and sun-kissed notes of juicy orange. The Cucumber & Lime Tonic Water is the mixer equivalent of a cold shower – it’s all about refreshment and is the driest in our range.
