94 points, “Creamy, mineral and pretty varietal at the same time, mixing brioche with gooseberries, lime and flint. Flavourful on the palate with a medium to full body, all very linear. Fresh and a tad saline followed by a lengthy, pure finish.” – James Suckling

93 points, “The wine's style and richness fills the glass. It has maturity and ripeness with fine, textured fruit and acidity that intertwines beautifully. Its spice, density and concentration give it a still youthful character. Drink from 2023.” – Wine Enthusiast

There’s a quiet revolution happening in Sancerre and wines like this are leading the charge.

Once known for crisp, lean and young Sauvignon Blanc, Sancerre is becoming riper, richer and more able to age. Sancerre d’Antan means ‘Sancerre of ancient times’, which refers in part to the age of the vines (some of which were planted on these flinty soils in 1936), partly to the ten generations the Bourgeois family have been doing this, but also to the very traditional way in which it has been made. Foregoing the stainless steel and chemicals of the modern age, this is fermented in old barrels, aged on the lees and bottled without fining or filtering.

The result still has Sancerre’s signature laser-like acidity, but that’s accompanied by ripe grapefruit, melon, lemon and pineapple, toasted coconut, homemade roasted almond milk, spiced cashew and a faint waft of smoke. Stylish stuff that cries out for lemon sole, lobster, artichoke hearts, asparagus, goats’ cheese and herby salads.
