Tasting Notes
“The atmospheric and beautiful Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz is Australia’s most famous single vineyard wine.” – Langton’s
The Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine bestowed an “exceptional” ranking upon Hill of Grace, placing it alongside the likes of Penfolds Grange. For those not familiar with Langton’s, it’s an auction house that created a classification that has become the honour roll of Australia’s top fine wines. The wines are judged on the demand in the market over at least a decade, rather than simply relying on one critic’s opinion on a single vintage tasting. So, when they say this is one of Australia’s true greats, they really know what they’re talking about.
This pure Shiraz is matured in new French and American oak for 18 months. There was no 2000 due to shocking conditions, so the 2001 needed to be good. And it was. Jancis Robinson MW said: “Very dark and glowing. It looks like a top Bordeaux actually… Sweet and rich and beautifully balanced. Rather suave.”
So, you can expect a dazzling display of black cherry jam, Chambord liqueur, crème de cassis, herbes de Provence, creamy white chocolate, earthy coffee, vanilla, clove, smoked meat, liquorice and pencil lead. We have just one bottle left, so don’t miss out.
The Henschke family have been making wine in Eden Valley since 1868. From the biodynamically farmed Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone vineyards, Stephen and Prue Henschke create two of Australia’s most sought-after wines. The vines used to make Hill of Grace were planted in 1860 and it’s one of the very best wines in the world.
