Blanc de Blancs Tasmanian Sparkling Wine NV
Blowing most non-vintage Champagne out of the water at a fraction of the price, the Blanc de Blancs NV from House of Arras is about to become your new go-to sparkling wine.
Crafted using premium Chardonnay from Tasmania, Tumbarumba and Yarra Valley, significant barrel-fermented components and a top-secret 9% of mystery grapes; this is a unique fizz and unbelievable value. The production at House of Arras used to be too small to allow much export, but now this exquisite Blanc de Blancs – tasting like a sparkling Grand Cru Chablis with its silky notes of honeysuckle, lemon curd, grapefruit zest, salted focaccia and peach yoghurt – is available in the UK.
Having amassed hundreds of trophies and gold medals over the last quarter of a century, House of Arras is Australia’s most awarded sparkling wine producer and rivals Les Grandes Marques of Champagne. James Halliday, Australia’s most famous wine critic, rates it as a five-star winery and notes: “While there have been distinguished sparkling wines made in Tasmania for many years, none has so consistently scaled the heights of Arras. The complexity, texture and structure of the wines are akin to that of Bollinger RD and Krug.”
Born in England, Ed Carr moved ‘Down Under’ at the age of eight. Racking up 34 years of experience in the industry, 27 of which have been focussed primarily on sparkling wine, this “quietly spoken genius” has, in the words of James Halliday, become “by some considerably distance Australia’s greatest sparkling winemaker.” Sourcing outstanding fruit from Tasmania’s finest cool-climate regions, employing the same method used in Champagne and maturing their bottles for an inordinately long time, House of Arras creates wines that are renowned for their complexity and depth.
