Famille Hugel Anniversary Mixed Case 2009 - Case of Six
Released in celebration of 370 years of winemaking, the Famille Hugel Anniversary Mixed Case is one of the most exciting collections we’ve ever offered.
The wooden case contains three dry wines (Jubilee) and three sweet wines (Vendange Tardive) from the rich and harmonious 2009 vintage, created using the three grapes that the Alsace is most famous for: Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. The two Rieslings come from Schoenenbourg and the two Gewürztraminers come from Sporen, which are two of Alsace’s greatest Grand Cru vineyards, and the two Pinot Gris wines are made from grapes harvested in Pflostig (Riquewihr’s finest Pinot terroir) and heavier components from Sporen. These wines will keep for decades and are masterclass in pure decadent pleasure. Consider pairing with exotic spices, creamy curries, blue cheese and pâté.
2009 was a sad year for the Hugels as it saw the passing of the legendary Jean “Uncle Johnny” Frédéric Hugel, a man described by wine expert Tom Stevenson as “the single most important person in the development of Alsace wine industry throughout the 20th century.” However, this meant the baton was passed to an exciting new generation and they were duly blessed with a fabulous vintage, one in which the healthy fruit produced lively and concentrated wines with longevity, great purity and “exemplary varietal character throughout the region” (Jancis Robinson). This makes this wooden case an awesome gift and a must-have for Alsace lovers and collectors of the finest wine.

The Hugel family arrived in the Alsace in the 1600s and have become the most famous name in the entire region. Based in the impossibly adorable gingerbread town of Riquewihr, Hugel has shaped the wine laws in Alsace and sets the benchmark for the wines in this corner of France. Their importance is demonstrated by the illustrious company they keep as members of Primium Familiae Vini – an association of the world’s finest family-owned wineries that includes the likes of Château Mouton Rothschild, Antinori, Vega Sicilia, Tenuta San Guido (of Sassicaia fame), Egon Müller, Pol Roger, the Symington Family Port house and many more. They have also been admitted to the Hénokiens, an exclusive club for companies that remain family owned, have a history of 200 years’ experience and still bear the name of their founders. Hugel is one of the dazzling jewels in France’s enviable wine crown.
