This limited-edition whisky was distilled, matured and bottled at the family-owned Kingsbarns Distillery in the Kingdom of Fife. Part of their much-loved single cask range, it celebrates the nuances and variations achieved by natural oak maturation.

Crafted with locally grown barley, this Lowland Scotch was filled into cask number 1732158 – a high-quality Sherry butt from Spain. After four years, it was poured into just 662 bottles at a cask strength of 61.1%, non-chill filtered and natural colour.

The team at Kingsbarns always choose barrels that have a gentle influence. This is to ensure that the terroir and fruitiness of the spirit isn’t overwhelmed. So, on the nose there are scents of sultanas, currants, raisins and mixed peel. We’re instantly transported to making Christmas cake or mince pies. On the palate you’ll discover and intriguing blend of cherry cola, cinnamon-spiced apple pie, rhubarb crumble, strawberry jam, desiccated coconut and a little fiery crystallised ginger from that punchy ABV. This is something a little more wintery from Kingsbarns. Maybe one to tuck away for the festive season or charging the hip flask.

The Wemyss family have a long history with Scotch whisky, as John Haig built his first distillery on their land at the beginning of the 19th Century. Their new venture started out as a derelict Georgian farmstead, which has been lovingly converted into the glamorous Kingsbarns Distillery. This new Lowland whisky producer draws its water from an aquifer 100 metres below the distillery, the Laureate barley is grown in Fife and is completely unpeated (the environmentally conscious choice of many new distilleries), and the wood policy was directed by the late, great Dr Jim Swan, a celebrated whisky maker who was described as “the Einstein of whisky” and who was instrumental in setting up a raft of other great distilleries, including Nc’nean, Filey Bay, Cotswolds, Kavalan, Penderyn, Kilchoman, Victoria Caledonian and Milk & Honey. Kingsbarns Distillery is located deep in golf club country on Scotland’s tempestuous east coast. So, it will come as no surprise that their whisky makes a fine choice after a windy eighteen holes.
