Metis Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Tasting Notes
The name ‘Metis’ comes from Greek mythology meaning ‘wisdom and skill’, and you can taste both in every sip of Klein Constantia’s 94 point-scoring (Tim Atkin) Metis 2017. Previously described as “nothing short of remarkable” by critic Matthew Jukes, this Sauvignon Blanc made in collaboration with Pascal Jolivet of the Loire Valley fame is on its way to becoming one of South Africa’s future superstars.
Grapes are hand-harvested from carefully selected plots in the highest reaches of Klein Constantia’s vineyards, ensuring a crisp acidity. These undergo a slow, spontaneous fermentation which allows the aromatics to develop. The wine is then matured on the lees for 12 months in stainless steel tanks and a little oak. The result is restrained, complex and oh so classy. Bright and lively lemongrass, lime and flint dance amidst a very ‘grown-up’ umami and mineral palate.
