Auslese Cuvée 2017 Half Bottle 375ml
“An exuberant joy.” – Jancis Robinson
Kracher’s Auslese Cuvée 2017 is a blend of Chardonnay and Welschriesling, the latter being no relation to Riesling and nothing at all to do with Wales. But when it comes to its quality, there can be no confusion whatsoever. Bursting with tangerine, salted walnuts, passion fruit sorbet, jasmine tea, baked apple stuffed with spices and golden sultanas and drizzled with honey. Elegant and not too sweet –about half the residual sugar of the Beerenauslese Cuvée – it’s screaming out for a cheeseboard or summer dessert.
Austrian Alois Kracher was one of the finest winemakers the world has ever produced. The recipient of a perfect 100 point score from Robert Parker, named Winemaker of the Year countless times, and he was even called on to help Manfred Krankl with his cult wines at Sine Qua Non and Jorge Ordóñez with their venture in Málaga. All of which is an incredible achievement for a specialist in sweet wine – a category that many in the wine industry do not take seriously enough. Outlived by his father who founded the estate, sadly ‘Luis’ died at the age of just 48, but his legacy and skill live on through his son Gerhard. Weinlaubenof Kracher is located near the Hungarian border on the shore of Lake Neusiedl in an area of Burgenland called Seewinkel. The nearby shallow waters help to promote the spread of noble rot required to make the finest sweet wines.
