With his combination of knitwear and perfect hair, Johan Bülow is handsomely Scandi. And this man loves his liquorice. So much so that after honing his craft, he opened his first shop in 2007 on the tiny Danish island of Bornholm. He had sold out within two hours of opening – they were so good that one customer even bought the sample bowl. The following year he upscaled, setting up the world’s smallest liquorice factory in Taastrup, just outside Copenhagen. Now his dark little morsels of gluten-free hygge are available worldwide, and Lakrids is without a shadow of a doubt the world’s finest liquorice.
