Saumur-Champigny Vieilles Vignes 2017

If only Bollinger made red wine…

…oh wait, they do.

This Saumur-Champigny Vieilles Vignes is a glorious Cabernet Franc from Langlois-Château, Loire’s famous Crémant house owned by Champagne Bollinger. The old vines create fruit that’s dark, aromatic and concentrated. Combine that with eight to twelve months of maturation in the finest French oak barrels, and you have a very serious wine on your hands. Blackberry, raspberry and cherry fruit mingle with roasted red pepper, rose petal, forest floor, vanilla and polished wood. This is one of Saumur-Champigny’s flagship red wines and it will age for a decade or more. However, it’s hard to resist now, especially with stews, game or roasts.
